The Same Kind of Different As Me

This book is about three people, a black man who grew up in virtual slavery, and thought that living on the streets of Fort Worth was a step up in life, an art dealer who deals with million dollar paintings and travels the world, and a women with her heart in tune with God and in possession of a dream given by Him. Denver Moore, Ron Hall, and Debbie Hall. This book is a story of God's perfect planning. It is worth reading. For all ages.

Miracle Heidi

REVIEW: This book is an amazing true story of believing the unseen rather than the seen. This is a book suitable for all ages, although most would not understand it until they have been taken through a struggle where God was the only thing left to lean on. The book is written by a mother whose daughter is born with a heart six times the normal size, after God repeatedly told her (the mother) that the baby she was carrying was perfect, a masterpiece. The mother continues to hold on to the promise that her baby will live and not die while the doctors repeatedly explain that this child is going to die. A beautiful down to earth story, this book is about a struggle and a God that is big enough and loving enough to come through on what He has promised. It is definitely worth reading, especially if you need encouragement to continue to believe the unseen, when all that is seen points to exactly the opposite of what God says. If you are the type who cries through books or movies, you will cry through this whole book, and cheer at the end when God reveals how perfect His plans are. There is some odd spiritual warfare stuff that is done in the book that I had never heard of or had heard was slightly kooky, but this book has made me want to research it for myself. Don't be scared away by the slightly outdated cover; if God gives you the time, read this book.

Beyond the Reflection's Edge

I have just finished the first book, Beyond the Reflection's Edge, in the Echoes From the Edge series by Bryan Davis.

This post is simply my thoughts, and should be taken with a grain of salt.

(WARNING: This first bit is something of a rant.) The book ended without an ending! What?! Even books in a series should have some sort of wrap up; Davis did this in his other two series (Dragons in our Midst, and Oracles of Fire), but this book just ended like a chapter should--not a book. Also, if you are going to be Christian, be OVERTLY Christian. Don't just throw God in every once in a blue moon. This book had fewer learning steps for the main character than Davis' other books did. Although the characters mistakes in Davis' other books completely exasperated me, they made me think harder; I like books that make me think and challenge me. Lastly, I wish the characters would just act like brother and sister. They are just sixteen! I want to see a relationship between Christian young people that is just a brother and sister type relationship. Some of the things that happened between Nathan and Kelly in the book could bring about feelings of regret on the part of the reader that he/she does not have that type of relationship, and those feelings can easily push someone towards an unhealthy relationship. (END OF RANT)

(REVIEW) This book is for a young adult audience. I would not read it to or allow anyone to read it who is under the age of 13. The content is graphic, especially if your mind turns books into more of a movie than just words on a page. This book is Christian fantasy. It is about a young man and woman who are caught in the middle of inter dimensional travel, while trying to save the young man's parents. All three dimensions reflect the same world, they are just on different time schedules. With the threat of the three dimensions colliding into one Nathan and Kelly must work together to save the cosmos. Davis can definitely keep you on the edge of your seat, but since this book doesn't have an ending I cannot give a full review as to whether it should be read to the end or not; I need the end of the story. (END OF REVIEW)

(BLIP ON BRYAN DAVIS) (From the back of the book) Bryan Davis is the author of the bestselling fantasy series Dragons in our midst and oracles of fire. He and his wife, Susie, have seven children and live in western Tennessee, where he continues to cook up his imaginative blend of fantasy and inspiration. (Not from the back of the book.) Davis and his wife are homeschooling Christian parents. Davis started writing small stories for his children, and later was nudged by God (from the way I understood it) to step out on a limb and write for a living.
